Just before the pandemic hit, we did a blog called, 8 Spiritual Pop Songs to Inspire Your Day. For months now, another set of songs has been asking to be brought together. As music is one of the languages of the soul and heart, with the collection below, may you feel uplifted, supported and inspired.
Kyrie by Mr. Mister (1985)—Just like U2’s Gloria, Kyrie (Eliason) is not about a woman. It’s the Greek phrase for God have mercy. Richard Page, lead singer said that the song is a prayer, “I get a lot of power from meditation, from being still and realizing that what I’m doing is insignificant compared to the Universe. That’s what the song is all about.”

Running up That Hill (A Deal with God) by Kate Bush (1985,2012,2022)— Yes, a romantic love song but one that comes from wanting to include God within the relationship. This builds on the idea of compassion and the spiritual principle that we are all connected.
In 1985, it was Kate Bush’s first top 40 hit in the US and it hit #3 in the UK. In 2012, it was included in the fanfare for the Summer Olympics in London, which sent it flying back into the top 10 in the UK. In late June, 2022, this song hit number #1 on the US Billboard charts due to its appearance on Stranger Things.
